Three Kinds of Limits

Quantity, value and weight

Most order-limit apps only handle quantity. Real fulfilment constraints are rarely that simple, so Prime MOQ governs all three dimensions of a cart.

Quantity limits

Minimums, maximums and step increments so customers buy in the case packs you actually ship.

  • Minimum 24 units per wholesale order
  • Maximum 2 units per customer on limited stock
  • Increments of 6 to match your carton size

Order value limits

Require a minimum spend before checkout unlocks, or cap order value to control risk.

  • Minimum $500 before a wholesale account can check out
  • Different floors for retail, wholesale and VIP tags
  • Store-wide or scoped to a single collection

Weight limits

Keep every cart inside its freight bracket so shipping never quietly eats the margin.

  • Cap cart weight at 30kg to stay on parcel rates
  • Require a pallet minimum on heavy goods
  • Block combinations that break your carrier tiers
Enforcement

A rule that can be bypassed is not a rule

Plenty of apps hide the add-to-cart button or print a warning in the theme. Both are cosmetic. A shopper with a direct cart link or a permalink walks straight past them.

Prime MOQ validates every rule at checkout, which is the one place an order has to pass through. If the cart breaks a limit, it does not complete.

Use Cases

What merchants use it for

Wholesale minimums that hold

Give trade customers their volume pricing without letting them order three units at the wholesale rate. The minimum is checked at checkout, so there is no way around it.

Case-pack integrity

If you ship in cartons of twelve, customers should order in twelves. Step increments make the correct quantity the only quantity available.

Freight-safe carts

Weight ceilings stop the order that technically fits your catalogue but costs more to ship than it earns.

Fair access on scarce stock

Maximum quantity caps keep a single buyer from clearing a limited run before anyone else sees it.

Segment-specific rules

Retail, wholesale and VIP customers can each get their own limits using the Shopify customer tags you already maintain.

Clear cart messaging

Explain the rule in your own words at the moment it applies, so shoppers adjust their cart instead of abandoning it.

The Shopify Stack

Limits are one of three decisions

Prime MOQ decides what a valid wholesale order looks like. Two other apps handle who is allowed to see your pricing in the first place and what that order finally costs. Each installs on its own, and all three read the same Shopify customer tags.

Discount Prime

A minimum on its own reads as a wall. Discount Prime makes clearing it worthwhile with volume and B2B pricing on the same customer tags your limits already target.

Prime Lock

Limits decide how much a buyer must order. Prime Lock decides whether they reach the catalogue at all, with approval and tagging that happen before any rule here applies.
